TREVERSON MUSIC

Links

Here is a list of sites that I find interesting for a variety of reasons, professional and personal. Enjoy!

International Trumpet Guild

A non-profit organization, founded in 1974 to promote communications among trumpet players around the world and to improve the artistic level of performance, teaching, and literature associated with the trumpet.

Boston University College of Fine Arts

My "main gig", so to speak - I teach trumpet lessons and classes, as well as coaching brass chamber music. I'm privileged to have followed the legendary Roger Voisin at BU, and even more privileged that he is still willing to give masterclasses here even into his eighties! My job is a pleasure with gentlemen like Roger, our full-time faculty (Eric Ruske and Don Lucas), and terrific adjuncts such as Tom Rolfs, Peter Chapman, Joe Foley, Jamie Somerville, Rick Menaul, Doug Yeo, and Mike Roylance around.

BU Tanglewood Institute

Many great musical activities occur every summer at Tanglewood; the Boston Symphony Orchestra summer season is probably the best known. Boston University was invited by former BSO conductor Erich Leinsdorf to start a High School program back in the 1960s, and it has flourished ever since. For orchestral instruments, there are 2-week workshops, a 6-week Orchestra program, and a 4-week Wind Ensemble session, with the most talented high school musicians invited to participate. Students are exposed to one of the world's great orchestras (every student has a free pass to the BSO concerts), not to mention some of the finest teachers and conductors, in a beautiful setting in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. It's a great place to make music!

Peninsula Music Festival

A three week, nine concert orchestral festival each August, in which I play Principal Trumpet. Our conductor, Victor Yampolsky, is a tremendous musician, and the Festival always brings in top rank soloists. Current and recent members of this orchestra play in the Cleveland, Dallas, Pittsburgh, and Nashville Symphonies, among others. The Festival has also sustained a Winter Concert Series for a number of years, featuring many of the orchestra members in chamber music settings. The PMF is a real gem, and not to be missed if you're in the vicinity of Door County, Wisconsin.

New England Brass Band

I've been an active brass band enthusiast since 1994, first with the Lexington Brass Band in Kentucky, and now with this fine collection of amateur brassplayers from the Northeast. We are conducted by Douglas Yeo, the Bass Trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, who brings his considerable experience and musicality to every rehearsal, concert and recording session. Many members have long associations with the Salvation Army and British brass band traditions; their knowledge and playing techniques inspire my more recent approach to the cornet.

Synergy Quintet

In all of my teaching experience I have yet to come across a more dedicated brass chamber music ensemble. I'm proud to say that this group received its advanced training here at the Boston University School of Music. They have an extensive list of upcoming appearances - catch them if you can!

Metro Church

My family and I have been active partners with many local church bodies as we have moved from place to place; I can say that none has been any better than the one in which we now serve. If you're ever in the Boston area and want to visit a place that exists to love people as Jesus does, it's worth the forty-five minute trip out to Marlborough. If you've come on a day when I'm in town, you'll most likely hear me in the worship band - be sure and say hi!
